August Meeting With Victor Wilhelm
Thank you to Victor Wilhelm, PE, PSM, who came to speak to us about the exciting world of Unmanned Aerial Systems and his experiences using them within the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. SAME JAX POST MEMBERSHIP DRIVE
Our SAME mission is to promote and facilitate engineering support for national security by developing and enhancing relationships and competencies among uniformed services, public- and private-sector engineers and related professionals, and by developing future engineers through outreach and mentoring. There is no better way to support our mission then to recruit new members from across all sectors that would appreciate, embrace and proffer our values and membership benefits to grow our society and our future leaders! In our “Run to 2020” – the first phase of our 3 year centennial celebration - we want to do our part to espouse the values and benefits of Society membership by recruiting more members:
Phase I (May 2018-May 2020). The Run to 2020, which is ongoing, is about generating awareness and excitement about SAME’s impact on the nation, with the aim of increasing member participation as we start our second century.
An authentic and simple message sharing what SAME membership adds to potential new member’s personal and our collective strengths goes a long way. In short:
Networking with peers to build a professional/client network and new personal relationships/friendships
Growing as a professional through educational programs and mentors/mentees matching
Leadership opportunities by joining a council or committee and Post Leadership opportunities
So for each new individual member that a current Post member recruits the new member will receive a high quality “SAME Jacksonville Post” polo shirt which can be worn on the golf course or in professional settings.
If a current Post member recruits 2 new members the recruiting Post member will receive a polo shirt.
If a current post member recruits 6 members via new Individual or Sustaining Members the recruiting Post member will receive a $200 gift certificate Visa or MasterCard gift card.
To ensure your recruitment is validated please work with our Membership Chairperson when bringing new members in. She has all the right forms (there are numerous membership categories) and can speed up the membership enrollment process working directly with National who is very responsive! August Meeting Raffle Winner
Registering for last month's luncheon 14 days early, this month's Early Bird Registration winner was Ken Quinones, Survey Manager for Manson Construction. Manson Construction Co. has a proud and longstanding history in the heavy civil construction and dredging market. Manson's Headquarters are in Seattle, Washington with operations strategically located in Northern and Southern California, Louisiana, and Florida; managing much of the work that keeps Manson at the forefront of the marine construction and dredging industries.
Seeking Chapter Advisers
Word of our growing Jacksonville Student Chapters and the benefits of student membership are spreading. Two colleges in the Central Florida area are now seeking to start chapters however they need a Post to sponsor them and a liaison. Given the distance of all posts to the colleges we may be able to help or know of members in the Tampa or Space Coast Post who may. The colleges are Lake-Sumter State College in Leesburg and Seminole State College in Sanford. If you are an SAME member who lives in the central Florida area or are willing to commute to support the colleges please let Elizabeth May know at her contact information above.
